Teens

Adolescence is marked by a number of normal but often difficult struggles, including peer relationships, identity formation, sexual orientation, substance use, school performance and academic expectations, increasing autonomy and the process of learning how to identify, express and regulate emotions.

Additionally, teens live with the challenges of ever-present technology and social media, mass shootings, the pandemic aftermath and tremendous political and cultural discord. All of these factors impact how kids see themselves and the world around them.

Every generation has to learn how to navigate the social changes of their time.  But the pressures that come with today’s challenges, can leave teens – and their parents – feeling lost, overwhelmed, desperate and out of control.

Our skilled therapists begin by engaging with each teen in ways that resonate with that teen. When appropriate, gaming, music or sports may be incorporated into the therapeutic work but building a trusting and consistent relationship is always at the center of the therapy. We help teens gain greater self-awareness as they navigate their way through a confusing developmental stage.  This is all directed to the goal of building a secure sense of self that will be the foundation for a successful life characterized by vitality, creativity, meaningful relationships and the ability to define and achieve their own goals.
