About Me

My approach to therapy is based in the following principles:

The capacity for growth and healing is innate and hardwired. Life events and circumstances often disrupt the natural processing of challenging material.

All behavior serves a purpose. As a result of unanticipated, unpredictable, and/or uncontrollable life experiences, we may resort to what become maladaptive strategies to try to manage our pain.

The therapeutic relationship provides the ingredients necessary for healing to occur. By approaching relationships with my clients in an authentic and non-judgmental way, trust and safety are fostered and healing can begin.

Maladaptive coping patterns can be changed. The brain’s capacity to constantly learn and develop throughout the lifespan permits old behaviors to be unlearned and new techniques to become learned.

Change is scary and uncomfortable, but people are resilient. When we can see ourselves as capable of changing our circumstances in a positive way, we can learn to tolerate the discomfort of change to promote a better way of living.

Keeping the above principles in mind, I approach therapy from a genuine place of curiosity and compassion, for it is only with curiosity that we are able to move from “what’s wrong?” to “what happened?” and then “what next?”
